Buckets Rookie QB Pat Binder Named Starter

Los Angeles- In an unexpected move, the L.A. Buckets have a new signal-caller in first-year player QB Pat Binder.

"He just plain had a better Training Camp than the other guys," Coach Tando said. "He has more discipline than Derrick Nay and a better arm than Erickson. Everything else is a toss-up."

In a recent scrim Binder was awesome, throwing several pinpoint passes that impressed the L.A. staff. "Last season we had too many mistakes from the QB position and even though he's just a Rookie- he plays like a Veteran," Tando said.

When reached for comment, former starter Derrick Nay was stunned, "Yeah I know I had some bad games last year- but this is a shock. I mean, who is this guy?"

The new starting QB for the L.A. Buckets.

Binder was eager to play right away. "I was glad L.A. picked me up and gave me a chance to improve in Training Camp. I was hoping my numbers would be good enough to play this year and fortunately they were. My goal is to take us to the next level with a passing game to compliment our stellar run game. I'm ready!" He said.

So begins a new chapter in the Buckets' book- tune in next week for the 2005 Season Opener as L.A. begins on the road against D. Lee's Raintown Rattlers- may the best coach win!

6 Veteran L.A. Buckets Retire, 6 New Rookies Picked Up

Los Angeles- The Buckets had some aging players finally call it quits after the 2004 season:

Michael Quirk (C), 17 seasons
A steady backup that rarely got off the bench last year.

Fred Breed (G), 19 seasons
Set the record for longevity- not many players get to play THAT long. After an injury to the starters he actually got in a few games last year!

Chad Walters (HB), 7 seasons
Did not get a carry last year- but did catch 2 passes for 32 yards and 2 TD's before hanging the cleats up.

Boyd Schultz (WR), 12 seasons
Quietly retired after being inactive the whole season.

Terry Gruber (WR), 12 seasons
Was active for a few games after a starter was hurt and finished with 3 catches for 42 yards and a TD.

Ray Bortz (QB), 13 seasons
Held the clipboard last year and never really played.

The ROOKIES:

QB Pat Binder
Has great ratings and just might steal the starting role if he has a good Training Camp.

RB Bubby Harlow
Could be the eventual replacement for All-Pro RB Anthony Wolf in a few seasons if he improves in a few areas.

WR Newton Putnam
Wowed coaches in a scrim against Texas recently with an 70-yard TD catch and run. He has the tools to play right away.

WR Monty Williams
Talented player who could also see action immediately.

C Jeff Pool
Adds depth to the OL.

G James Banks
Good ratings for a Free Agent OL. A fine pick-up.

Good luck to the rest of the WFFL this season!

Cheers,

Jay
