WFFL 2015 Insane Bowl Champion: Hell's Kitchen Demons

Regis Picks (submitted by mystery writer)

  1. Virginia Jets (15-2) – Has to get over that New York hump in the playoffs. Took him out in the regular season, but New York returned the favor in the playoffs. A #1 seed ought to do the trick.

  1. Minneapolis Northern Lights (14-3) – A favorable schedule should put the Lights in the #2 seat and should give them a good chance at the WFFL title.

  1. New York Invaders (14-3) – Former champs back on the prowl. The Invaders are always a championship contender, but maybe some of the other teams have caught up.

  1. Hells Kitchen Demons (13-4) – Last seasons champs will hit a small slump in the middle of the season. Demons are tough, but 2 in a row is a tough hill to climb.

  1. Los Angeles Buckets (12-5) – The Buckets are in the playoffs every year, but always seem to hit the tough teams on the road in the championship round. If they could ever secure a top seed again, they might have the team to take it to the house.

  1. San Antonio Gunslingers (11-6) – Former WFFL coach returns. It's a different league now and on any given Sunday anyone can win as they say, but the Slingers should make a playoff debut in their return season.

  1. Darby Township Eagles (10-7) – Rough schedule for the Eagles this season. Of the playoff teams from last season the Eagles have exactly 0 of them at home. It's a rough way to spend a season.

  1. Mile High Jolly Rogers (10-7) Mile High hit rock bottom last season, and all of the WFFL were scratching their collective heads. Look for a rebound this season, as coach DeAngelo has an actual computer the runs

  1. Shanghai Wangs (9-8) – The Wangs always find a way to slip in to the playoffs, but the league is tough, and coach Wanger admits he doesn't have a lot of time to put in to the game.

  1. Sugarloaf Stingers (9-8) – The Stingers, The Wangs, The Rabbits, The Miners, and the Arrows all could and should compete for that last playoff spot. This is going to be a very very tough fight for that last spot. The Wangs get the edge of the Stingers because that week 14 game is in the Birds Nest.

  2. Ancaster Arrows (8-9) – The Arrows need a little help in the running game, and on defense. But one or the other could catapult them in to the playoffs. It's going to be a dogfight till the end, but does Ancaster have the staying power to keep up?

  3. Matewan Miners (7-10) – Another one of those teams that from season to season is always right there fighting for that last spot. The Miners pass defense lets them down from season to season, shore that up, along with Hatfield making some timely plays, and once again, we are looking at another run at the playoffs.

  1. Sydney Rabbits (7-10) – The Rabbits were right in the mix until the last 3 games of the season. Unfortunately the Rabbits last 3 games of the season are Hells Kitchen, New York and Mile High. Regis here predicts that Sydney will need to be sporting a minimum 9-4 record heading into those last 3 games if they have playoff aspirations.

  1. Plano Longhorns (6-11) – The league just keeps getting tougher. Plano can definitely sneak in to the playoffs, but coach Wheless will need to put some time in working on those plays to get the ummph he needs to get there.

  1. New Jersey Riptide (5-12) – New coach got his feet wet last season. Will need to improve upon his playbook and game awareness in order to advance much farther this season.

  1. Pittsburgh Beserkers (5-12) – One of the top offenses in the league last season, but a defense like a sieve. Has to stop folks if they want to push forward and up the ranks of a very tough tough league.

  1. Stuttgart Stallions (4-13) – Madden style football doesn't work in the WFFL. Defense is a premium and the Stallions seem to be content with trying to push the ball down field, even on 4th and 26 from their own 12 yard line.

  1. St. Louis Thumpers (3-14) – New coach last season got to see how things work, but has found that the online world is a take no prisoners game. Should improve, and if he sticks with it, could be a surprise team in seasons to come.

Final Analysis: The 1-5 seeds are perennial playoff contenders and any one of those missing the playoffs would be a huge surprise. With the addition of the Gunslingers to the league, it really mucks up the middle seeds. Truth be told seeds 6-14 could easily be flipped on any given game day. The competition keeps getting rougher with each season as coaches learn each other and get better. The Jets are due a title and looked to be on the track last season until a heart breaking loss at the end of the season to Darby dropped them out of the top seed and forced them into a semi-final match against the ol Invaders. One thing to note, if not for a game 1 loss to Shanghai last season, Darby Township would have ended up the #1 seed and could of easily ran the table to the championship, but with the rough road schedule this season, it really puts them at a disadvantage. One thing is for certain more then any other season. Every game every week counts big time for every team who expects to be a contender. No team can be taken for granite and no win can be bigger then any one loss. Expect the top seeds not to be decided until the last couple of weeks of the season, and expect the 6-8 playoff spots to be an all out dog fight. That week 1 loss to someone could cost you a playoff spot down the road.
