About the Team:
Matewan, West Virginia is a famous mining town located at the conflueance of the Tug
Fork River and Mate Creek in Mingo County. It's on the Kentucky border in the southwest
corner of the state. The town is famous for the The Battle of Matewan and the Hatfield /
McCoy feud.
Some notable historic celebraties include but are not limited to:
William "Devil Anse" Hatfield and Randolf "Ole Ran'l" McCoy of the
Hatfield / McCoy feud (Ole Ran'l actually lived in Kentucky) and Sid Hatfield who was
sheriff at the time when the mining companies hired Baldwin Felts agents to break up the
coal miner's union.
